smartFAB is seeking a Data Scientist to join our dynamic team in Milan. You will apply cutting-edge AI and ML algorithms to solve real-world challenges and explain complex machine-learning concepts in simple business terms.

About the position

As a Data Scientist, you will apply AI and ML algorithms to solve real-world manufacturing challenges and explain complex machine-learning concepts in simple business terms. You will be involved in all phases of product development from conceptualization of features, model implementation, unit testing, performance analysis, and deployment.

You are an analytical problem solver who enjoys diving into data to solve real-world problems, is excited about investigations and algorithms, can multi-task, and can credibly interface between internal and external stakeholders. Your expertise in synthesizing and communicating insights and recommendations to audiences of varying levels of technical sophistication will enable you to answer specific business questions and innovate for the future.

You will work both remotely and in the Milan office.

Responsibilities

  • Analysis of large amounts of data from different various manufacturing data sources.
  • Research and build statistical and machine learning models and algorithms.
  • Improve upon existing machine learning methodologies (develop and test model enhancements, run computational experiments, and fine-tune model parameters).
  • Formalize assumptions about behavior, create definitions of outliers, develop methods to systematically identify and fix outliers.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing to business customers with various levels of technical knowledge.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in an analytical role involving data extraction, analysis, statistical modelling, and communication.
  • Excellent understanding and demonstrated ability to use machine learning algorithms to solve real-world problems.
  • Significant experience deploying ML models and solutions and passion for getting hands dirty with code.
  • Excellent knowledge of Python and its data-related libraries (pandas, numpy).
  • Experience with Cloud platform architectures (AWS, Azure, GCP) and knowledge of Kubernetes.
  • Natural curiosity and desire to learn and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to effectively advocate technical solutions internally and externally.
  • Demonstrable track record of dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering results in a dynamic environment.
